NEWS: Frightened Rabbit Announce Additional Tour Dates

Frightened Rabbit have announced three additional dates to their UK Winter Tour in November/December, including two dates in Ireland, and a second date added at Glasgow’s Barrowlands, all on sale from today.
The band return to the UK briefly over the next couple of weeks to play Summer Sundae in Leicester this weekend, and their first V Festival shows the following weekend. The band are currently in the US, having played Lollapalloza at the weekend – one stop in a long summer of  international festival appearances off the back of this year’s stunning ‘Winter Of Mixed Drinks’ album that has seen the band embrace an ever growing audience with confident, show-stopping performances abroad and at home – memorably those at Glastonbury, Latitude and especially T In The Park.
Additionally, Frightened Rabbit are giving away a brand new, previously unheard track from their website, entitled Son C”, having premiered it to their fans first over the weekend.
Scott (lead singer/songwriter) explains a bit about the song:
“As is often the case, death rears its head. Most days, I think briefly about the way in which I may die, and what will be left behind aside from a collection of fat, muscle, bones and apparently a fair bit of carbon and water. Death is really what defines life – without it the whole endeavour would feel a bit mundane and pointless. Procrastination would be extended to years, even decades – what would be the point of doing anything if you knew you would live forever? So death is what keeps me going, even more so than effervescent tablets…”

The Kaje talks Summer Sundae Weekender to The Invisible

At the end of 2006, Dave Okumu (Jade Fox, Matthew Herbert) had intended to work on his own solo material. So, he called up good friends Tom Herbert (Jade Fox, Polar Bear) and Leo Taylor (Gramme, Zongamin, Matthew Herbert) and they set about writing material. Soon enough they liked the material they were producing so much that they decided to work as a unit. Unintentionally The Invisible had been born. Four years later the force is unbreakable and the touring consistent. Currently Stateside, The Invisible return to the UK in August to play Summer Sundae.

Summer Sundae Weekender kicks off in August. What’s your favourite thing about summer festivals?

Discovering new music and seeing our friends play.

What can we expect from your show?

We’re currently on tour in the US and Tom is threatening to use the time on the long drives to learn some magic tricks, so we might incorporate them depending on how successful they are. Leo’s pretty good at juggling and fire-breathing, so we might showcase his skills too. I feel that in the past we’ve focused far too much on music to the detriment of our careers, so I’m pushing for leather catsuits in an attempt to redress the style/substance imbalance. We may raid Lady Gaga’s wardrobe.

Summer Sundae is renowned for showcasing emerging talent. Which new band are you most looking forward to catching?

I’m afraid I don’t know who’s on the Summer Sundae line up but the artist I’m most looking forward to seeing live this summer is Connan Mockasin. His latest album has changed my life.

The festival has also been graced by legends like Patti Smith, Billy Bragg and Chrissie Hynde. What’s your fondest festival memory?

In The Woods 2009 in its entirety. It’s the best festival on the planet.

The festival turns ten this year – how did you celebrate your tenth birthday?

We were living in Vienna when I was ten. I’m the youngest of eight. There would’ve been a lot of hugging and a lot of cake. Not hugely dissimilar from most days in our household. I recommend the same for your 10th anniversary.

The Kaje talks Summer Sundae Weekender to Wave Pictures

Dave Tattersall, Franic Rozycki and Jonny Helm are East London’s Wave Pictures. Formed way back in 1998 in a small village called Wymeswold, the trio spent their formative years playing sporadic gigs accross Europe. Over a decade later, Wave Pictures are still going strong and as well as an EP release, this summer will see the trio hitting the festivals hard. One which they are all looking forward to is Leicester’s Summer Sundae, so we set about to find out more.

Summer Sundae Weekender kicks off in August. What’s your favourite thing about summer festivals?

Getting to see loads of your favourite bands for freeeee!

What can we expect from your show?

Lots of sweat, a little bit of dancing and at least one check shirt.

Summer Sundae is renowned for showcasing emerging talent. Which new band are you most looking forward to catching?

Looking forward to seeing Fool’s Gold. I’ve heard a lot of good things about them…

The festival has also been graced by legends like Patti Smith, Billy Bragg and Chrissie Hynde. What’s your fondest festival memory?

We had such a splendid time at the first ever End of the Road festival in Dorset. Watching Josh Ritter cast the field into total silence was incredible.

The festival turns ten this year, how did you celebrate your tenth birthday?

I probably had some friends round to eat cake and watch a crap video.

The Kaje talks Summer Sundae Weekender to Fool’s Gold

Whilst The Foals and Vampire Weekend have kick-started the afro pop resurgence, LA troupe Fool’s Gold are widely known for taking the genre to the next level. The final line-up of six may just be a slimmed down version of the thirteen members who worked on their eponymous debut, but with influences ranging from western pop radio to soukous, the sextet still promise to deliver their own breed of the inspirationally uplifting. Currently making the most of the summer sun, Fool’s Gold will be stopping off at Summer Sundae Weekender.

Summer Sundae Weekender kicks off in August. What’s your favourite thing about summer festivals?

Every year the fried foods at summer festivals get more intense and exponentially more bizarre. Deep fried candy bars are pretty common festival fare now, but I heard about a man in America who figured out a way to deep fry butter last year. The trick was freezing the butter before coating it in batter and submerging it in the super hot oil. Now you know.

What can we expect from your show?

Sweat, harmonies, grunting, mega hits, deep grooves, melodic epiphonies, heavy slapback, bedroom eyes, Hebrew, English, fried butter.

Summer Sundae is renowned for showcasing emerging talent. Which new band are you most looking forward to catching?

Joseph Camperband and the Holograms

The festival has also been graced by legends like Patti Smith, Billy Bragg and Chrissie Hynde. What’s your fondest festival memory?

The South by Southwest music festival was pretty amazing this year — 2,000 bands, loads of free BBQ, plenty of Fool Gold’s drug of choice: sunshine. Bill Murray rocked out to one of our sets this year, and we shared a stage with GWAR. Insanity.

The festival turns ten this year,  how did you celebrate your tenth birthday?

My Mom had a cake made in the shape of a dollar bill, and my Dad invited an Israeli magician named Amos Cadabra. Some kid blew out my candles and I got upset that the rabbits were kept in their trick compartments until the big finale, but all in all it was the perfect immigrant-in-L.A. tenth birthday party.

The Kaje talks Summer Sundae Weekender to Rugosa Nevada

Having garnered comparisons to the mighty My Bloody Valentine and triumphant The Editors, Derby quartet Rugosa Nevada are up for a celebration this summer. And what better way as an upcoming super group than to hit the festival circuit? Staying true to their Midlands roots, Rugosa Nevada will be taking to the stage at Leicester’s Summer Sundae Weekender.

Summer Sundae Weekender kicks off in August. What’s your favourite thing about summer festivals?

Disposable BBQ’s, flip-flops, Hawaiian shorts and aviator shades. Just being woke up by live music is something to marvel at.

What can we expect from your show?

A huge set of dauntingly brilliant guitar lines, vocals and a tight, sure fire rhythm section. Expect surprises.

Summer Sundae is renowned for showcasing emerging talent. Which new band are you most looking forward to catching?

Mumford and Sons will no doubt be a great festival band this year so we can’t wait to watch them! But we’re also looking forward to The Futureheads, The Go! Team, The Sunshine Underground and Los Campesinos!

The festival has also been graced by legends like Patti Smith, Billy Bragg and Chrissie Hynde. What’s your fondest festival memory?

Opening up at the Y Not Festival last year. Even though the weather was terrible and we had to carry all our gear up a muddy, mile long hill, we played our hearts out to hundreds of people and gained loads of new fans and friends.

The festival turns ten this year – how did you celebrate your tenth birthday?

Like any other ten year old boy in the 90’s – Power Rangers Party!
