The Kaje Sessions: Axe Girl

The Kaje Sessions presents Axe Girl. Having made her Top Of The Pops debut aged just 12 as part of Chicken Shed (you must remember “I Am In Love With The World”), Bristol born singer/songwriter Axe Girl won over the mainstream with her performance on T4’s “Musicool”. Since then she has toured with The Gossip, released a limited edition album and won no less than four awards at the MTM UK Awards – oh did we forget to mention that she has written music for “CSI:NY”? With new single “We Believe” released ahead of an Australian tour, we were lucky enough to scoop this rendition of the aforementioned for The Kaje Sessions.

Where did you record The Kaje Session?

On the rooftop overlooking Westminster Abbey.

What made you choose to use this location?

A lot of artistes show the gritty raw sides of London and I think often the most beautiful parts are dismissed. Westminster Abbey is one of the most famous and over photographed land-marks, I wanted to show it from a different perspective. This is one of my favorite spots, it’s so central and yet so peaceful.

What is the most unusual live date you have ever played?

I was involved in a documentary for Channel 4 a few years ago, and as part of it had to go into an uncomfortably small room to perform one of my songs to none other than Jermaine Jackson. I only found out an hour before, and had nowhere to practice or warm up, so I found an empty toilet cubical, locked the door, and I had to sit on the loo and play with my guitar vertically as the cubical was so narrow. As far as I can tell I pulled off the performance though, as when I watched it back on telly Jermaine was bopping along merrily.

What made you choose “We Believe” for the session?

It’s our new single. We released it last week and it’s available on all major digital stores!
