NEWS: We Are Birmingham Leads The Way For Midlands Artists

The new We are Birmingham(WaB) store opened at Unit 2, King’s Parade, Dale End, Birmingham on 13th November 2010 selling a wide range of artistic and creative products designed and produced in Birmingham and the West Midlands.

We are Birmingham is an Arts and Creative Industries retail organisation based on the principals of social enterprise.

The arts that the shop represents cover the full remit of creative industries including the visual arts, fashion, ceramics, writing, music and any other creative activities the board deems appropriate for the shop.

The goal of the project is to provide local artists from all creative fields a retail outlet in Birmingham to sell their works, in order to generate income that will sustain their creative activities and to promote the Arts in Birmingham to existing audiences whilst also developing new ones.

In addition, We are Birmingham will provide opportunities for artists and creatives who are from non-traditional backgrounds in terms of race, ethnicity, religion, sexuality and class. All profits from the shop are going back into the company in order to sustain, support and nurture the project for the future.

The opening of the WaB shop was the culmination of five months of preparation and planning by a core team of volunteers to deliver a sustainable retail establishment for the people of Birmingham, bringing the works of Birmingham’s talented creative communities to the West Midlands public.

Profiles of several artists whose work appears in the shop can be found at www.wearebham.com

Our editor, Jeremy Williams, is amongst the artists whose work is on sale. His seven image collection includes ‘Blue Angel’ (pictured right), which can be bought as a print or as part of his newly launched four image ‘Dolls’ postcard collection. We highly recommend dropping in to have a peak at the amazing array of talent the Midlands has to offer.
