NEWS: Opel/Vauxhall announces Katie Melua as Brand Ambassador

Singer/songwriter Katie Melua, one of the world’s top music artists, has become Opel/Vauxhall’s new brand ambassador. The collaboration between the artist and the motor manufacturer will coincide with the singer’s 50-city European tour in 2011 including 13 dates in Britain starting in Sheffield on 22nd April. The new partners announced their co-operation today during an exclusive press conference, live performance nd webcast at AIR STUDIOS in London.

Peter Hope, Opel/Vauxhall’s Marketing Director, comments: “We are thrilled to be working with Katie. Vauxhall is all about being British, forward thinking and energetic, and we think Katie embodies these values perfectly. In addition, we are passionate about consistent environmental awareness and social responsibility; as a subject very close to Katie’s heart, it only makes the partnership more fitting.”

The singer is equally positive about the new partnership. “I like the way Opel/Vauxhall addresses topics like environmental protection and sustainability and I feel very comfortable with the partnership; it’s a great fit” said Katie.

Chief among Opel/Vauxhall’s environmental credentials is the groundbreaking Ampera, due for release in 2012. The electric vehicle will be unique in providing motorists with the potential of up to 50 miles on battery power with an extended range feature.*

Internationally respected as an advocate for environmental protection and charitable activities, Katie Melua has firmly established herself among the ranks of international music stars with her unique and unmistakeable style. Since the release of her debut album ‘Call Off The Search’ in 2003 Katie has sold more than 10 million albums with multi-platinum awards in 13 countries. One of Britain’s most successful artists of the new millennium Katie was Britain’s best selling female artist in 2005 & 2006. Born in Georgia and now a British citizen, all four of her albums (‘Call Off the Search’, ‘Piece by Piece’, ‘Pictures’ and 2010’s acclaimed ‘The House’) have topped the charts internationally.

* The Ampera is battery powered for up to 50 miles but also has a range-extending petrol engine/generator which can take the car on to a total of 360 miles without refuelling. In either mode, the Ampera is always driven by its electric motor.
