The Kaje Sessions: St Leonards

The Kaje Sessions presents St Leonards. Aussie rockers St Leonards came to life after lead singer Shane Fritsch decided he needed a band to realise his writing ambitions. Having sought inspiration within his own family’s inability to accept his decision to live life as an artist, St Leonards are a moving and uplifting lyrical proposal. Luckily for us, Shane and Chris decided to strip it back for The Kaje Sessions… In a special performance just for The Kaje, this is “Opened Up My Eyes”

Where did you record The Kaje Session?

Shane: We recorded the Kaje Session at a little office block in London.

What made you choose to use this location?

Shane: We chose the location because we were walking past one day, we’d just got off the tube and we sort of looked up in the window and it just looked so great in there. So we knocked on the door and say “hey, we’re doing this thing for The Kaje Session. Do you mind if we use your office for a little while?” So they said “that’s fine.”

Chris: It just happened to be the publisher’s office.

Shane: It’s just one of those things, you know, when it works out like that.

What is the most unusual live date you have ever played?

Chris: I’ve got one. The first gig I did actually as a working musician, we rolled up and the guy was checking our IDs to see if we were old enough to get in. Our bass player wasn’t old enough, so we had to run a lead from onstage to outside to he could play with us. We had a lot of punters giving us hell about it. It was great.

What made you choose “Opened Up My Eyes” for the session?

Shane: We chose that because we hadn’t really rehearsed any other song. So it was the least risk involved. That’s the truth.
