VIDEO: Maps & Atlases “Solid Ground”

The wonderfully named “Maps & Atlases” are wonderfully sounding – a strangely simple comment, but strangely right. The Chicago-based band are part of the ‘math rock’ movement – if you can call it that – with complex, atypical rhythmic structures (including irregular stopping and starting), angular melodies, and dissonant chords, all forming an incredible sound that is a progression of the typical indie sound.

Both folky and rocky, Shiraz Dada (bass), Chris Hainey (drums), Dave Davison (guitar/vocals), and Erin Elders (guitar) have managed to produced something which catches both the listener and the viewer and draws them comfortably in to their world.

Maps & Atlases’ release their debut album, ‘Perch Patchwork’ – FatCat’s 100th album release – on 4th October and then they are on tour having last been seen in the UK supporting Foals, the band have announced a headline tour for OCTOBER as follows:

10 Sun – GLASGOW  Captains Rest

11 Mon – MANCHESTER  Deaf Institute
