The Kaje talks Latitude to The Maccabees

The Maccabees have come a long way since first forming back at Brighton University in 2004. AT the time, they were unsure what to name themselves, so simply opened a Bible and randomly selected a name. Surprisingly, given their religiously orientated name, their latest album “Wall Of Arms” carries a particularly atheistic tone. Having shone as part of the Shockwaves NME Awards Tour 2010, The Maccabees are enjoying a summer of festival appearances. As well as appearing on the main stage at Reading and Leeds, The Maccabees will be performing at Latitude‘s Obelisk Arena, so guitarist Felix White tells us what we can expect.

When you think of Latitude what five words spring to mind?

I’ve heard it’s pretty good.

If you could only see one performance at this year’s festival what would it be?

Very difficult question because The National, Richard Hawley, Wild Beasts, Grizzly Bear and Laura Marling are among our favourites anywhere. I’ll say the National because we haven’t seen them play the new album yet. It genuinely is a very good line-up.

What five items will you be bringing to Latitude?

Five amps. One of which will hopefully work.

Do you have anything special planned for your performance at Latitude?

The plan is to not let ourselves down!

Latitude is five years old, how did you celebrate your fifth birthday?

I don’t remember but I imagine Latitude’s fifth will be more eventful.
