Giving Gary Lightbody a run for his money…

General Fiasco? You are probably thinking that I am just saying random words…?

Well, you would be wrong General Fiasco are potentially one of the hottest indie bands on the up and coming. Formed in 2007 by Owen and Enda Strathern along with Stephen Leacock, the trio played one of their first ever performances later that year in Ireland at Glasgowbury Festival (Northern Irelands largest independent outdoor music festival). This was just the start of good things to come for the boys.

As they started to taste fame, having supported bands such as The Enemy, The Pigeon Detectives, The Wombats and even getting to support another  Irish hometown band Snow Patrol along with more performance later that year at Oxegen, Belsonic and the Leeds Festival.

Since then General Fiasco has taken Ireland by storm and quite recently started their assault on England, Scotland and Wales with Radio DJ’s such as Zane low, Sara Cox and Colin Murray playing their material…this is a name to watch out for.

It didn’t stop there for the boys, 2010 saw the launch of their debut album (“Buildings”) which did receive mixed reviews from a number of listeners, but having personally listened to the album I found that I couldn’t turn it off. The songs were replayed on my iTunes everyday.

I found “Buildings” to be a brilliant and its “rawness” adds to the believability of the music. This alone makes for a rare album, that you are able to listen without the need to press skip.  General Fiasco will be compared to Ireland’s legends Snow Patrol but I think that they have nothing to worry about as they would give Gary Lightbody and his chums a run for their money.

Some could say that I am being biased with General Fiasco since I’m a fellow Irishman myself and the fact they live down the road from me, but to be frank “Buildings” is an album brings back indie music to what it used to be about… the ladss remind you that you don’t need to spending millions on making music, music videos or even have electronically modified voices throughout. Good music is about the love and passion that they have.

With a number of songs standing out on “Buildings” such as ‘Ever So Shy’, ‘Forget First Impression’ and their new single ‘I’m Not Made of Eyes’ this is an album that you MUST download and have a good listen to.
